How to use 3DES algorithm in java card

I would like to use 3DES algorithm to develop a simple java card applet which encrypts and decrypt the data.
But now I have some problems which need someone to help me and give me some pointers.
1. For using 3DES, what API in javacard needs to be studied ?
2. How do I know whether my java card supports this algorithm or not?
I would be greatly appreciated if someone can share a sample code with me.
